Agricultural Extension Officer Appointed

We are delighted to announce that ART has appointed Zacharia Kamau to the post of Agricultural Extension Officer. Zach has recently completed his diploma at Baraka Agricultural College and is excited about joining ART. Zach has a passion for training and showing others how they can improve their farming to maximise the potential of their land and animals.

Many of the pastors that ART trains have to farm their land, where they have some land, in order to survive. Rural churches are not able to provide a salary for the pastor, unlike urban churches where pastors receive a salary from the church and are well supported. There are many challenges to farming in Kenya even though some areas such as the Western and Nyanza province are highly fertile and crops can often be grown year round. These challenges sometimes arise from the mix or type of crops that farmers grow and a lack of diversification.

We pray that Zach will have much success in improving the rural pastors farming and increasing their income and range of food that they can produce.

Eight new centres launched!

Over the last two months ART has launched eight new centers with help from some of the pastors that completed their training this year. The centers are in the Coast region and Nyanza Province, see the home page map for details or click here. We thank God for the privilege and opportunity to begin the training of another group of needy pastors who have not received any formal bible training yet are seeking to teach and pastor their churches as best they can.  Please pray for these pastors as they begin their training, pray that He would equip them to better understand His word to be able to teach their congregations well, grow in Godliness and be able to better pastor His people.  Pray that they will remain committed to spending one week per month attending their training center as it’s a great commitment of time amidst their other responsibilities.

New centers and pastor trainers

We are tremendously encouraged by the willingness of ten of the pastors who have just completed training in our three centers to train others.  In so doing they are responding to Paul’s challenge to Timothy (1Tim 2v2) “what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also”.  In many respect this sums up the essence of ART and we feel represents a new testament model for training. that’s so appropriate in Kenya where there are thousands of untrained pastors.

Anthony has been busy over the last few weeks traveling to the different centers to ascertain the viability of new centers and potential sizes of classes as well as the logistics in terms of travel involved for pastors and trainers. At the coast he has confirmed that there are at least 3 cohorts ready to sign up and possible a forth as the bishop of the Redeemed Gospel church in the area is so impressed with results achieved by ART training that he wants to “order” 20 of his pastors to take the training.

In the Nyanza region, six new centers seem a possibility with pastors from Walter’s group providing  most of the training. To our surprise it does not look as if there is much demand in the Lanet region for training. There is a need but some pastors say they are “Spirit led” and do not see the need for training.
Anthony feels that Naivasha would be a much more fruitful area and is confident of getting a group established there. There is also a possibility of training an enthusiastic group of passionate evangelists in the prison there. We get a bit overwhelmed with the needs and opportunities that arise in unlikely places and situations. How we need wisdom! We will be looking to start the new centers in phases to ensure that Anthony and Tom are not overwhelmed and have time to come alongside the new pastor/trainers.

ART Trustees visit pastor Edward’s church

During Jeremy and Jan’s visit to Kenya in November with Roy Summers and Steve Mitchell, they had a chance to visit the church where Edward is pastor.  Edward is one of the pastors in training and it was a delight to join with the congregation in worship and also to hear him preach so well.

Roy Summers visits Maram pastors class

Roy Summers, Jeremy and Jan’s pastor visited Kenya in November along with Steve Mitchell, one of the elders at Manor Park Evangelical Church in Worcester.  Steve and Roy taught the pastors for a day on the subject of biblical leadership.  Many questions were fielded including the role of women in leadership!
